Nebraska Governor will ask for disaster declaration

Widespread flooding in Nebraska this month has caused more than $14 million damage to roads and other public infrastructure, so Gov. Dave Heineman is asking for a federal disaster declaration. Heineman is expected to sign a letter Monday asking for a disaster declaration for 44 of the state's 93 counties.

Nebraska Emergency Management Agency officials say that number could grow to 51 counties once the damage assessments are complete. The full extent of the damage might not be known for as much as a year after officials start repairing roads, bridges and other infrastructure across the state.
