Nebraska Lake Closing Shores To Swimming Because Of Algae
More Nebraska lakes are proving to have high levels of toxic algae, and one of them is just a short drive from Lincoln. The Pawnee Lake Beach is lined with signs warning people to stay out of the water. Swimming has been banned, and people are being advised not to drink the water. The warnings aren't spoiling the fun, as just a short walk away in the same lake, people are crowding into beaches that are safe. The toxic algae occurs naturally and usually clears up in a couple of weeks.
