Nebraska offers fans, cooling aid to residents
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is offering fans to low-income, aged or disabled people. Department officials say they have bought fans using federal money in a program administered by the state.
The department has partnered with local organizations to get fans to people in need. The department also is offering help to low-income individuals and families. To qualify, a member within a household must be 70 or older and have specific medical conditions that make the person susceptible to heat.
