Nebraska student vote program information

Registration has started for classes to enroll in Nebraska Student Vote, a program that combines civics instruction with a mock election in connection with the Nov. 2 general election.
The program, sponsored by Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale and the Omaha World-Herald, is designed for elementary, middle and high schools. 
Teachers can get information about the program and register their classes online at The registration deadline is Oct. 15.
“Nebraska Student Vote promotes a critical need – civics education,” said Gale. “Students who participate in the program are more likely to become active citizens and lifelong voters.”
A teacher's guide with lessons will be offered online for participating classes. Participating students will have access to the electronic version of the Omaha World-Herald newspaper every Wednesday from Sept. 29 to Nov. 3.
Students will vote for governor and the U.S. House of Representatives in the mock election.
More than 63,000 students participated in the program in 2008
