Nebraska Women Lose

(Lincoln-AP) — Mandy Close and Shannon Howell each scored 17 points tonight (Monday) to lead Oregon State to a 75-to-67 victory over Nebraska in the Women's National Invitation tournament. Close and Howell were among five Oregon State players to score in double figures. Hollye Chapman scored 14 and pulled down a game-high ten rebounds. Briana Chaney scored 13 points. Leilani Estavan contributed ten as the Beavers held off a second-half Nebraska rally. That rally was led by freshman Kiera Hardy, who scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the second half. Nebraska trailed by ten at halftime, but took a brief lead at 55-to-52 on a pair of three-pointers by Hardy. Oregon State regained the lead for good on a Chapman basket with 6:01 remaining. Alexa Johnson added 16 points for Nebraska. Oregon State (17-14) advances with the win to a third-round game against Creighton on Wednesday. Nebraska finishes its season with an 18-and-12 record.
