Nebraska’s members of Congress are reacting to today’s violence at U.S. Capitol. Both the House and Senate are in recess this week, so a lot of members are out of town.

We reached out to our congressional leaders and a spokesman for each say everyone is safe.

Senator Ben Sasse’s office issued this statement, "Senator Sasse’s staff is safe and sheltering in place. We are tremendously grateful for the bravery of the Capitol Police who are handling this situation."

Representative Brad Ashford tweeted this, "I’m in Omaha. My D.C. staff is safe and sound. Can’t thank the quick action by Capitol Police enough."

Senator Deb Fisher also tweeted something. She wrote, "Relieved that my D.C. staff is safe and accounted for. Thanks to Capitol Police for their quick response to this incident and continued service."

We also heard from officials from both Congressmen Jeff Fortenberry and Adrian Smith. They say their staff are also safe and accounted for.
