More details are released surrounding the investigation into the Dept. of Corrections.

The review, driven by the Nikko Jenkins case, was looking into the mental health treatment of inmates and disciplinary segregation.

Auditors reported Monday that Nebraska needs to keep better track of mental health records for prisoners.

The legislative panel says that mental health information for inmates was not always up to date. They say the Dept. of Corrections also needs to take a closer look at the amount of time prisoners are segregated from other inmates.

Auditors say it was difficult to estimate how much time prisoners were segregated because of inconsistent data.

A committee chairman says the Dept. of Corrections electronic data system needs to seek an independent consultant to review the information.
