For the second week in a row, Nebraska had a tough time stopping the run. And, for the second week in a row, the Huskers lost to Big Ten West division foe. This time, No. 23 Nebraska lost to No. 25 Minnesota by four points.

Behind a strong game from Gophers’ quarterback, Mitch Leidner, Minnesota overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to beat the Huskers 28-24 in front of the 340th consecutive sellout crowd at Memorial Stadium.

Leidner finished 8-17 for 135 yards, but he did most of the damage on the ground. He rushed for 132 yards on 22 carries for two touchdowns. As a team, Minnesota finished with 281 yards rushing.

In the first quarter, the Huskers were plagued by injuries. Four Huskers went down, including Kenny Bell, Randy Gregory, Mark Pelini and Alonzo Moore. Only Gregory would return.

Still, Ameer Abdullah and Tommy Armstrong Jr. led the Huskers on two first-half touchdown drives. Nebraska got its third touchdown of the first half on a field goal blocked by Gregory and returned 85 yards by Nate Gerry. The team would manage only a field goal in the second half.

Armstrong Jr. finished 12-19 with 223 yards and one touchdown. He added 68 yards rushing, however, he was sacked four times. On Senior Day, Abdullah finished with 99 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries.
