No New Recruits for State Patrol

Budget cutbacks and rising gas prices has the Nebraska State Patrol canceling this year's recruiting class. Normally those spots would be filled with new recruits to the force. But because of a tight budget and fuel prices, they won't be able to train and hire the new troopers. The state patrol says service won't suffer. The hiring freeze will help patch up a roughly two million dollar shortfall in the agency's budget. The Patrol will have seventeen positions vacant at the end of the year
