Northeast Nebraska hit by powerful storm
High winds and heavy rain have flooded roadways, toppled trees and knocked down power lines in northeast Nebraska. No injuries were reported, however.
A fast-moving storm ripped away a shed early Friday morning and another building was moved at least three feet off its foundation northeast of O'Neill. Six miles east of Atkinson, a pickup was severely damaged and trees were down.
Several trees were damaged in O'Neill, and grain bins were damaged at Scribner Grain, which is about three miles north of Emmet. The National Weather Service says rain and storm runoff has closed several rural roads in eastern Nebraska, and flood warnings are posted for several areas.
Nebraska Game & Parks have closed some parks due to flooding. Timber State Recreation Area near Scribner has closed temporarily due to flooding. The Cottonwood and Riverside campgrounds at Two Rivers near Waterloo also are closed because of flooding. Campers can contact the Game & Parks Call Center at 471-1414.
