NSP: Tank abandoned off I-80?

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KLKN) — Thursday morning, around 11:15, Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) reported finding a what looked to be a tank abandoned off I-80 near Overton.

Upon further inspection, NSP identified markings on the vehicle indicating it belonged to the South Dakota National Guard. The tank-like object was found to be an abandoned military vehicle, left on the side of the road on a parked trailer Wednesday by the trucking company contracted to move it.

The vehicle, which is part of the South Dakota National Guard 211th Engineer Company, had been on its way back to South Dakota after a training mission in California. NSP is now working with the South Dakota National Guard to return the vehicle, as well as locate the driver who had abandoned it.
