NU Baseball beats future Big Ten foe Iowa, 7-3

Patric Tolentino's two-run homer broke open a one-run game in the seventh inning and Nebraska started a seven-game homestand with a 7-3 victory over Iowa on Tuesday night.

Tyson Blaser and Bryan Niedbalski hit back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the seventh to pull the Hawkeyes within 4-3. Josh Scheffert tripled in the bottom of the seventh for his third hit of the game before Tolentino hit his second homer of the season off reliever Ricky Sandquist to put Nebraska (26-16) up 6-3.

Starter Tyler Niederklein (6-1) allowed one hit in two innings and Casey Hauptman, the seventh Nebraska pitcher, held Iowa hitless over the last 2 1/3 innings for his sixth save. Jeff Pacha (0-3) was the loser.

The Huskers have won five of the last seven games in the series. Nebraska and Iowa will begin playing conference games against each other next season when the Huskers are members of the Big Ten.
