NU Baseball Team Extends Win Streak To 9-Striaght

College Station–The 12th-ranked Nebraska baseball team opened up conference play with a 3-2 win over 22nd-ranked Texas A&M on Friday night in College Station.  Senior firstbaseman Matt Hopper's 8th inning homerun gave the Huskers a 3-1 lead and freshman Tim Schoeneger pitched 1-and-1/3 inning of shutout relief to help starter Aaron Marsden improve to 3-0 and the Huskers extend their consecutive win streak to 9.

The games first run came in the fifth inning when senior All-American Jeff Leise doubled to score shortstop Joe Simokaitis.  An Aggie error scored Leise for a 2-0 NU lead.  A&M cut the lead to 2-1 but Matt Hopper's eighth-inning homerun extended the Big Red's lead back to 2 runs.  The solo shot tied Hopper with Bobby Benjamin for the Cornhuskers career homerun mark at 48.

Aaron Marsden surrendered 2 runs on 10 hits, struck out 5 and walked 1 before being replaced by Shoeneger with 2 outs in the 8th.

The Huskers and Aggies continue their 3-game series on Saturday.
