NU Softball Wins Two, NU Baseball Loses One
Houston–The 15th-ranked Nebraska baseball team suffered its third-straight setback when it fell to top-ranked Rice 4-1 on Tuesday night. The Huskers got on the board first in the fourth inning when freshman Alex Gordon drove home Matt Hopper with an RBI single to left. Gordon's sixth RBI of the season gave the visitors a 1-0 lead. Nebraska would not score again as Owls starter Wade Townsend proceeded to strike-out a career-high 12 Husker hitters in 8 innings of work. Meanwhile the Rice batters cranked out 14 hits and scored 4 runs to extend their school-record win streak to 17 straight.
Lincoln–The 5th-ranked NU softball team swept a non-conference double header with UM-Kansas City on Tuesday. The Huskers outscored the Kangaroos 17-0 in the two games. In game one, freshman pitcher Summer Tobias no-hit the visitors while Lisa Wangler led the NU offense with a 2-3, 3 RBI performance to lead the Huskers to a 9-0 win in five innings. Game two would also end after 5 innings as starter Peaches James threw a 1-hit shutout and Kim Ogee tallied two hits in an 8-0 victory. Rhonda Revelle's squad improved its record to 18-and-4 with the sweep.
