NU WGYM: DeZiel Picks Up Weekly Honor After Senior Weekend

Following a successful Senior Night win against Oregon State last weekend, the Nebraska women’s gymnastics team earned its seventh weekly award this season as senior Jessie DeZiel collected Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week honors, announced by the conference Monday.
DeZiel grabbed her first conference honor of the season and the 12th of her career after delivering a solid all-around performance against Oregon State Saturday. The Rogers, Minn., native put up a season high-tying 39.550 score to capture the all-around crown. She also took home the bars and vault titles with a 9.90 and 9.975 respectively, the latter score tying her career high. DeZiel last earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 24, 2014. Michigan’s Nicole Artz shares this week’s weekly award with DeZiel after producing a 39.550 all-around score on the road against Utah.
The NCAA saw significant shifts in the third week of RQS scoring, as Nebraska dropped two spots to No. 9 in the latest GymInfo national rankings with an RQS of 196.865. Oklahoma maintains the No. 1 spot for the ninth straight week, while Florida reclaims the No. 2 spot. LSU dropped back to third, as Utah and Alabama round out the rest of the top five.
NU remains consistent with top 15 rankings across all four events, including the No. 5 spot on vault with a 49.450 RQS score. Nebraska also ranks eighth on floor, 13th on bars and 14th on beam.
Individually, three Huskers continue to hold onto spots in the top 25. Senior Jessie DeZiel comes in tied for eighth on vault (9.925) and ranks 10th in the all-around (39.455). Junior Hollie Blanske occupies the No. 14 slot in the all-around (39.385), while also ranked tied for 17th on floor (9.905) and tied for 23rd on vault (9.895). Sophomore Ashley Lambert remains in the top 25 on vault, tying for 17th with an RQS of 9.905.
The Huskers will return to the Devaney Center this weekend as they host one of the two Big Ten Big Five meets. NU will welcome conference foes Illinois, Maryland, Michigan State and Ohio State to Lincoln in a battle of the Big Ten. The two Big Five meets will determine the winner of the Big Ten regular season title and will also determine the seeds for the Big Ten Championships March 21. Competition is scheduled to begin Saturday, March 14 at 12 p.m. CT and will be covered live by the Big Ten Network.
