Off-duty officer saves Hastings man from drowning

An off-duty Police Officer is credited with saving a man whose rowboat capsized on Lake Hastings. 72-year-old Sam Davidson, of Hastings, had been fishing Friday at the lake and reached over the side to correct his anchor when the edge of the boat dipped below the water.

Davidson says the boat quickly capsized and he can't swim. He was wearing a life jacket but it wasn't keeping him afloat and he yelled for help. Hastings Police Capt. Adam Story lives nearby. It was his day off and he was cleaning his garage, but he ran to the lake when he heard the commotion.

Story put on a life jacket and dove into the lake. He helped Davidson stay afloat until a rescue boat arrived.
