Olympic Gold Medal winner is in Lincoln for a groundbreaking

Olympic Gold Medal winner and Wimbledon Champion Jack Sock is Lincoln today for a groundbreaking at the Woods Tennis Center.   Sock is a Lincoln native who won the gold medal in mixed doubles in the 2016 Olympics and he also won a bronze in mens’ doubles.  Sock also won the mens’ doubles 2014 Wimbledon championship and won the 2011 U.S. Open championship in mixed doubles.  Sock is also a top U.S. singles player on the ATP Tour.

Sock is in town for the official groundbreaking of the new Woods Indoor Tennis Center at 33rd and J streets.  The event will take place at 7:00 p.m and the public is invited to attend.  The new indoor center will replace the aging tennis bubbles.

The Woods Park Tennis Center Campaign and the Lincoln Parks Foundation reached its fundraising goal this summer thanks to more than 400 donors.  The project is expected to be completed by May of 2017.
