Omaha utility crews working to restore power

Utility crews are out in Omaha and surrounding areas to restore power to about 1,100 households and businesses still without electricity following strong storms.

The Omaha Public Power District says crews have been working more than 14 hours to restore power to about 22,000 customers who initially lost power Tuesday evening as storms brought high winds, hail, lightning and heavy rain to eastern Nebraska.

OPPD says the storms damaged several power lines and other electrical equipment. The utility hopes to have power restored to every customer by late Wednesday.

National Weather Service meteorologist David Eastlack says storm survey teams are trying to confirm reports of tornadoes near Craig and Plattsmouth.

There have been no reports of injuries.
