Omaha woman involved in mall police shooting arrested
The woman who is suspected of trying to run down an Omaha police officer outside a mall has been released from the hospital and arrested.
Omaha police say 31-year-old Shantae Veland was released Monday from Creighton University Medical Center where she was treated for gunshot wounds. Veland remained jailed Tuesday morning on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and a Westroads Mall security guard and shoplifting.
Veland was shot Saturday by Officer Bryan Miller, who was working security at the mall while off duty. Omaha police say Miller was chasing a suspected shoplifter out of the mall when the woman got into Veland's vehicle. Miller was hit by the car and at some point he fired his gun. Miller has also been released from the hospital.
