Overnight Fight Sends One Man to the Hospital

An overnight brawl in a south Lincoln neighborhood turns violent, leaving one man stabbed and several others under arrest.

People like Phillip Bahr who was visiting a friend in the area describe the scene as crazy, chaotic and violent.

“From about 20th street midway through the block there were people in the street and the sidewalk they were just everywhere running and yelling and cussing throwing things is was just a lot of chaos,” Bahr said.

Lincoln Police Captain Jim Davidsaver says when officers arrived at 20th and South streets they found about 50 people in the street and on the sidewalk.

Several of them were fighting. The result, one man stabbed twice in the chest and stomach, another man injured when he was hit by a beer bottle. Both are expected to be ok.

Officers saw several people run into a nearby house. When asked the people who live there said they had nothing to do with the brawl.

But the police are not so sure.

“We're still trying to piece together exactly what happened but it sounds like those who were actively involved in the disturbance outside had been at the party that and the fact that once officers started to arrive at the scene that's where most of the people retreated they went specifically into that residence,” Davidsaver said.

Twelve people there were arrested on a number of offenses ranging from disturbing the peace to child neglect.

Police are on the lookout for a suspect in the stabbing. They say he's a black man and he was wearing a black tank top and khaki shorts.
