Overnight fire in SW Lincoln displaces family

Lincoln Fire and Rescue have been busy this morning battling a fire.

It happened at a neighborhood near Southwest 15th and West Garfield.

Fire crews were called after getting a report of a detached garage on fire. The fire then began to spread to the home, causing minor damage to the exterior.

Fire officials say the damage is significant enough that the family will have to stay elsewhere.

"The family that will be located is the family that lives in the house where the detached garage is pretty much destroyed," said Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg.

One of the family members tell Channel 8 Eyewitness News that they’re fine and will be staying with other family members for a little bit.

No word yet on the cause of the fire or cost of the damage. The Red Cross is currently helping the displaced family.

LFR says another home was also slightly damaged, but nothing there was significant.
