Players and Governor Johanns React

Nebraska players react to the firing of Frank Solich. Following Sunday's official announcement by Athletic Director Steve Pederson. Several players who were on hand felt without comment.

Monday, following a closed door meeting, Channel 8 talked to some of the Huskers. Former Nebraska Head Coach Frank Solich talked Monday, only not publicly. Solich addressed the team privately at Memorial Stadium for the first time since he was fired on Saturday night. Some of the players we spoke to Monday afternoon, literally had tears in their eyes after hearing from Frank Solich. Basically Solich told them goodbye and that he was proud of them.

One person who is not taking sides in Frank Solich's firing is the Governor. Monday at an education press conference he was asked by reporters about his thoughts on Pederson's decision. Johanns said the football program doesn't tell him how to run the state, and he doesn't tell them how to run a football program. However, he did praise his longtime friend, Frank Solich. Johanns said, “Steve had to make the decision that he felt was in the best interest of the program and no one is going to dispute the fact that Frank Solich is a top flight guy and he is.”
