Plea entered in duct-tape child abuse case

A 19-year-old Beatrice man accused of duct-taping his girlfriend's 22-month-old son to a wall last January has pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and two other charges. Corde Honea  faces sentencing Sept. 1 for the child abuse and for burglary and possession of a stolen rifle. He made his pleas Wednesday in Gage County District Court.

The little boy's mother, Jayla Hamm, also was charged with child abuse. She's scheduled for trial next month. A police affidavit says she held the boy against the wall while Honea taped him to it. The affidavit says pictures on Hamm's digital camera showed the boy crying while being taped. Hamm told police the boy was regularly confined in a dark closet. The boy was placed in state custody.
