UPDATE: Police foot chase leads to two arrests

Lincoln Police say two men are behind bars after an early morning foot chase.

Police spotted a blue Chevy Caprice parked outside of the Kwik Shop near 33rd and Holdrege just after midnight Monday.

“Officers recognized that vehicle as one that had been involved in a vehicle pursuit back in March,” Officer Katie Flood said.

Police say they found the driver, 39–year–old James Harris, inside the convenience store. They say he lied about his name then took off running into a nearby neighborhood.

“A foot pursuit was initiated and officers caught up with him in a yard near 34th and Starr,” Officer Flood said.

Police say Harris resisted and both officers had to use their tasers to arrest him.

During the pursuit, officials say the passenger, 51–year–old Ernest Holland of Omaha, ran and hid in a shed nearby. A K-9 unit was used to find him and he was arrested for outstanding warrants.

“Inside the vehicle, officers located marijuana, methamphetamine and also prescription pills loosely contained, not in their original containers,” Officer Flood said.

Harris was jailed for three counts of possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, failure to comply and false information.

Police say they don’t have enough evidence to tie Harris back to the car pursuit in March. That chase started after the vehicle made an improper turn.
