Polls open for Primary Election

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ The polls are open in Nebraska. Republican voters are set to choose nominees for governor and a U.S. Senate seat in the first Nebraska primary election since 1978 in which both offices are vacant at the same time.

Both races have grown more competitive as Tuesday’s election neared, and candidates spent their final day campaigning in a final push to win voters. The victors in both GOP races will emerge as heavy favorites to win the Nov. 4 general election.

Top GOP Senate candidates are Pinnacle Bank Chairman Sid Dinsdale, former State Treasurer Shane Osborn and Midland University President Ben Sasse.

Most polls show Sasse’s tea party-backed campaign leading the race, although Dinsdale has surged recently.

The governor’s race has turned into a tight contest between Omaha businessman Pete Ricketts and Attorney General Jon Bruning.

KLKN-TV will provide election coverage of the top races tonight after the polls close at 8 p.m. Stay tuned for the latest results throughout the evening. We will also have live reports from the candidates campaign headquarters.
