LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ A judge has issued a domestic violence protection order against Nebraska Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann after his sister accused him of violent behavior.

The order issued Monday by District Court Judge Daniel E. Bryan Jr. comes after his sister, Lois Bohling, filed a sworn statement last month in which she says he grabbed her wrists and screamed at her in a dispute involving their mother.

Heidemann, of Elk Creek, is also a candidate for lieutenant governor with Republican gubernatorial candidate Pete Ricketts.

Monday afternoon, Heidemann released the following statement:

“This is a private, legal family matter regarding disagreements resulting from my dad’s estate, as well as the best possible medical treatment for my mom. I dispute much of my sister’s claims. My immediate family has great support from the rest of our family, our church and our friends – we appreciate that support so very much in this difficult time, as we work toward a full resolution.”

A short while later, the Ricketts Campaign issued the following statement: “This is a very difficult time for the Heidemann family.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they address this matter.  At this time, we are trying to fully absorb all the information regarding the circumstances involved.”

Gov. Dave Heineman says he is reviewing all of the facts before rushing to judgement.
