If you were outdoors in Lincoln Sunday morning, you surely noticed them. A record-number of nearly 37-hundred runners who took part in the 28th annual Lincoln Marathon. It started bright and early, beginning and ending on the UNL campus. As in the past, this 26.2 mile race was a qualifier for the national guard 'national' marathon. And organizers say guard members from all 50 states participated. Among them was guardsman John Plunkett from Louisanna, who ran his first marathon since returning from Iraq in February. Plunkett said in the span of a year, his base in Iraq was bombed more than 500 times.
29 year old Colorado native Gannon White wins the men's full marathon with a time of 2:30:57.
Council Bluffs' Christy Nielsen repeats as the women's champ. She betters last years time finishing in at 2:49:50.
