LINCOLN – According to an Omaha World Herald report, Nebraska is closing on a deal to hire former Maryland defensive coordinator Brian Stewart as a defensive backs coach.

The report sources an anonymous person “with knowledge of the situation.”

Maryland announced Thursday Stewart would be leaving the Terps’ coaching staff. He spent three years at Maryland and has served as defensive coordinator for Houston and Dallas Cowboys according to a biography on Maryland’s athletics website. Stewart has coached defensive backs at San Jose State, Missouri, Syracuse, the Houston Texans and the San Diego Chargers as well.

Nebraska has not announced the hiring of a defensive backs coach at this time.
