Rex Burkhead to wear Team Jack inspired cleats Sunday
From: Team Jack Foundation
This Sunday when the New England Patriots face the Kansas City Chiefs at Foxboro Stadium, Rex Burkhead will be sporting his custom-made Team Jack cleats and continue to help spread national awareness fo child brain cancer research. For the third straight year, Burkhead will participate in the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign. The campaign allows players to wear custom cleats to help raise awareness for a cause that is close to them. Following the Week 14 games the players have the option of participating in the NFL.com auction. The proceeds from the sale of each players cleats will go directly to the charity of their choice. Last season, Rex chose to put his cleats up for auction and raised $1,760 for the Team Jack Foundation. In 2016, Burkhead’s custom kicks were auctioned off on the Team Jack Foundation Gala Live Auction and brought $2,500 for the cause.
Burkhead’s tie to the Team Jack Foundation began in 2011 when Rex was in his junior year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It was then that Rex met Jack Hoffman, a five year-old boy battling brain cancer. That meeting was the start of a strong friendship that Rex and Jack still share. Jack, now 14 and an eighth grader, is still fighting brain cancer and Rex is right by his side. Burkhead is a member of the Team Jack Foundation Board of Directors and uses his platform as an NFL running back to raise awareness for child brain cancer every chance he gets.
On March 28, 2020 Rex will host the 4th Annual Team Jack Trifecta event in his hometown of Plano, Texas. Burkhead rallies his family and friends to put on the three-sport event (5k run/walk, Youth Football Camp & Adult 3v3 Basketball Tournament) to benefit pediatric brain cancer. Last year’s event raised $107,000 bringing the three-year total to $210,000. For information on the Team Jack Trifecta visit www.teamjackfoundation.org/trifecta2020.
