A lucky Nebraska start-up is about to get a major investment. AOL co-founder Steve Case is bringing his Rise of the Rest 5-city bus tour to Lincoln and Omaha on October 3.

"When you get the attention of Steve Case you know you’re doing something right," Mayor Chris Beutler said.

Since Case started the tour to draw attention and money to local start-ups he has traveled to 19 different cities, and invested more than 2 million dollars.

Lincoln city leaders and entrepreneurs gathered for the big announcement. They say the showcase is a great opportunity for start-ups to get recognized and potentially gain other investors.

"It brings other additional connections. We realize we’re in a smaller community and we need connections to the coast, and other places that are going to make our entrepreneurs stronger," Marketing Director of NMotion Brian Ardinger said.

Case and his team of all star judges will hear business pitches during the one day event, and by the end one winner will receive a check of $100,000 from the tech pioneer.

Mayor Beutler says the launch of successful start-ups and other economic developments is proof that Lincoln is a great place to build a business.

"This is a great opportunity to highlight our innovators, share our city’s success story, and to build our reputation as the hub of the silicon prairie," Beutler said.

The competition kicks off a week long celebration in Lincoln called start up week. To learn more and apply for the competition click here: http://www.riseofrest.com/
