Saltdogs Trade for Ex-UNK Ace Sheldon

The Saltdogs acquired former Nebraska-Kearney standout RHP Ryan Sheldon from Normal (Frontier League) Monday, in exchange for C Pat Trettel, OF Kurt Steinhauer, SS Travis Weaver and cash.

Sheldon went 12-5 with a 2.82 ERA, tossing two shutouts for the Cornbelters in 2011. The 6-foot-6 right hander from Kearney finished second in the Frontier League in wins and strikeouts (134 in 140.2 innings), and will add another formidable arm to the 'Dogs already stout starting rotation.
The 25-year old pitched a few innings in the American Association in 2009 for Sioux Falls as a true rookie before joining Normal in 2010, where he went 9-5 with a 2.21 ERA.
Sheldon played collegiately at the Nebraska-Kearney, earning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year honors in 2009 as the ace of the Lopers.
Trettel hit .237 with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 58 games and joins Normal with the chance to be the starting catcher.
Steinhauer batted .260 with two home runs and eight RBI for Lincoln in 2011 after joining the club from Chico (North American League) in the second-half of the season. Weaver was acquired by the Saltdogs from Lake County (North American) during the campaign's final road trip after starting shortstop Vance Albitz was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals.
