Saturday Softball Game Postponed; Teams Hope to Play Sunday at Noon

Posted by: Sports

Saturday's scheduled softball game between Nebraska and Northwestern has been postponed due to cold temperatures. Per Big Ten Conference policy, the “RealFeel” temperature must be 28 degrees in order for a game to start, and temperatures were in the mid-20s early this afternoon and expected to drop quickly into the mid-teens.

The Huskers and Wildcats will try to play the third and final game of their conference-opening series on Sunday at Noon, weather permitting. The forecast calls for temperatures to again fall below the 28-degree threshold on Sunday, while the Lincoln area is expected to receive 1-4 inches of snow Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. An update on the status of Sunday's game will be posted on as soon as it becomes available. Fans with a ticket to Saturday's game can use that ticket for general-admission seating into any future regular-season Husker softball game this season. General admission seating does include chairback seats in section 102.

In anticipation of the inclement weekend weather, Nebraska and Northwestern played a doubleheader on Friday. The Huskers rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat the Wildcats, 5-4, in eight innings in game one. In game two, Nebraska scored eight runs in the first inning and six more in the third, producing the second-most runs in a conference game in school history in a 14-2, five-inning victory.
