Saunders Turns Down Head Coaching Job

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil said Thursday that offensive coordinator Al Saunders had been offered the head coaching job at Nebraska. But he turned it down to stay in the NFL. Now Steve Pederson's attention has turned to Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt. Sources tell Channel Eight that Pederson was in Fayetteville Thursday, talking to Nutt. Nutt is fresh off an Arkansas win over Missouri in last night's independence bowl. In six seasons at Arkansas, he's led the Razorbacks to a bowl game every year, while compiling a 48-27 record, including this season's 9-4 mark. Overall, Nutt is 84-49 in 10 seasons. Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles says he thinks Nutt has a good chance at the job, saying “I don't think there's any list, I think that [Nutt] is the top”.
