SCC Evacuation

A big scare happened at Southeast Community College in East Lincoln today.

Anthony Zuchegna was walking with friends inside Southeast Community College this morning when he saw the back of a man with a gun. He says it was so quick, he never saw any identification on the man's front side. There was fast reaction from Lincoln Police. Police surrounded the area. Locking down the entire school located near 84th and O streets.

Police officers found the armed suspect who turned out to be an off-duty hall county deputy sheriff's officer on his way to a seminar at the college. Officials say he was wearing a badge and hall county shirt to identify himself. But his identification could not be seen from behind him.

Police officials say federal law allows officers to carry weapons on and off duty. Also, state law says the no gun tolerance policies in effect for places of business like schools, don't apply to law officials.
