Seward Bus Driver Settles in 2001 Accident
The driver of a Seward school bus that crashed in Omaha three years ago, has settled with the state. Joshua Smith had filed a three million dollar claim against the state, alleging the department of roads was negligent.
The October 13th, 2001, accident killed four people and injured 27. The Seward students were returning home from a band competition when the bus veered off a guardrail and plunged about 60 feet into a creek. Back in February, a National Transportation Safety Board report concluded that Smith contributed to the crash, but placed most of the blame on a hazardous state construction zone.
Smith settled for nearly 3-hundred thousand dollars.
