Shoemaker Selected All-West Region in Football

MINNEAPOLIS.Nebraska Wesleyan University senior Riley Shoemaker was named to the 2016 All-West Region Third Team when the teams were released.

Shoemaker (Grand Island, Neb.) was named to the Third-Team All-West Region defense as a safety. He finished his senior season with 77 total tackles from his safety spot. He also recorded nine pass breakups and had two interceptions serving as a defensive team captain.

The Grand Island Central Catholic HS graduate was named 1st-Team All-IIAC this season and was honorable mention All-GPAC in 2014. He finished his career with 195 career tackles, 19 pass breakups and five interceptions.

The All-Region teams, selected in balloting by West Region sports information directors and staff, were chosen from 260 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 77 players were chosen for the West Region All-Region team.

Linfield quarterback Sam Riddle was the 2016 West Region Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year while St. Thomas cornerback Michael Alada was the Defensive Player of the Year. Coe College head coach Tyler Staker was the West Region Coach-of-the-Year.

Shoemaker becomes the first NWU football player to earn West Region accolades as the Prairie Wolves completed their first year as a full-time NCAA III football playing school.
