Should Nebraska raise minimum wage?

By: Jenn Hatcher

A legislative committee is considering a bill that would ratchet up Nebraska's minimum wage to $9 an hour over the next few years.

It's been five years since the federal minimum wage rose to $7.25 an hour.

21 states currently have minimum wage over the federal limit.

State Senator's Steve Lathrop and Jeremy Nordquist, are pushing for Nebraska to do just that.

“At 7.25 and hour, a worker working 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, makes about $15,000 annually,” explains Nordquist.

The business and labor committee held a hearing Monday.

More than ten in favor of the bill spoke.

A handful of opponents were also present.
