Should Teen Drivers Face More Driving Regulations?
It's a parent's worst nightmare, a fatal car accident involving a teenage driver and their passengers. Nebraska has some laws in place to make teen driving safer, but the NTSB is recommending more be done nationwide.
Nebraska has some laws that limit when a teen can drive, but soon teenagers could face even tougher driving guidelines. Last May a sixteen year old driver ran a stop sign and crashed near Lincoln, killing one teenage passenger and injuring 8 others. Nebraska Lawmakers could propose a bill this next January that would cut down the chance of distraction by limiting the number of passengers teen-drivers can have in their cars.
The NTSB says this type of legislation has worked in other states. They also say drivers with teen passengers are five times as likely to have a fatal accident.
