“Smoking Bus” Retired

A partial indoor smoking ban goes into effect Monday in Omaha.   It's different than the one in Lincoln, in that there are several exceptions to the ban.

Meanwhile, the retired city bus that was used as a smoking-area in the Hiway Diner parking lot along Highway-2 in South Lincoln is now gone.

Gary Walker, who bought the bus, mainly to protest the ban, tells Channel 8 news – he is going to sell the converted motor home, although he won't reveal the buyer.

He and the city had been at odds over the legality of the bus for some time, but he says he has made his point about personal freedom and is putting the vehicle out to pasture.

Now, Walker says he plans to run for mayor of Lincoln because he's “embarrassed by the city government we have.”
