Columbus, Ohio – Powered by a season-high five home runs, the Nebraska softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of the Ohio State Buckeyes with an 11-7 victory in the nightcap at Buckeye Field.

The Huskers pounded out 14 hits, while scoring double-digit runs for the 15th time this season. Senior Steph Pasquale homered twice, classmate Kylee Muir homered for the second straight game, sophomore MJ Knighten homered and freshman Kaylan Jablonski hit her first career home run.

Pasquale finished 3-for-3 and tied her Nebraska career high with five RBIs and the two home runs. Junior Mattie Fowler tied her career with three hits as part of a 3-for-4 day. Knighten also had three hits, finishing 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs to extend her hitting streak to 17 games. Freshman Laura Barrow added two RBIs, tying her career high for the second straight game.

Jablonski (2-5) earned her second victory, allowing seven runs (five earned) in 4.2 innings. Sophomore Cassie McClure picked up her fourth save of the year with 2.1 innings of scoreless, no-hit relief.

With the doubleheader sweep, Nebraska improved to 20-16 on the season, and the Huskers moved to 8-2 in conference play. Ohio State fell to 18-6 overall and 2-5 in Big Ten play. Shelby Hursh (5-4) took the loss.

Nebraska had to come from behind for the second straight game, as Ohio State jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Caitlin Conrad led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run.

The Huskers got the run back when Jablonski homered with one out in the top of the second.

Nebraska then batted around and plated four runs in the top of the third to take a 5-1 lead. Junior Kiki Stokes was hit by a pitch to begin the frame, before Knighten singled. Pasquale then launched a three-run homer off the scoreboard in right. Two batters later, Muir hit her own home run off the scoreboard to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Ohio State pulled to within 5-4 with three runs in the bottom of the third. Conrad led off with her second home run of the game. A Husker error then extended the inning and the error proved costly when Erika Leonard slugged a two-out, two-run home run.

The Huskers got a run back in the top of the fifth when Knighten lined a home run over the left field fence.

Nebraska then stretched the lead to 9-4 in the top of the sixth. Fowler began the frame with a single and freshman pinch runner Gina Metzler moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Barrow. Knighten then scored Metzler with her third hit of the contest before Pasquale blasted her second homer of the game to cap the three-run inning.

Ohio State answered right back in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally. With a runner at first and two outs, a bunt single and a three-run homer closed the gap to 9-7.

The Huskers responded with two more runs in the top of the sixth. McClure and Fowler walked to put runners on first and second with two outs. Barrow then delivered a two-run double to left center to give Nebraska an 11-7 lead.

That was more than enough cushion for McClure, who retired seven of the eight hitters she faced to close out the victory.

Nebraska and Ohio State wrap up their three-game series on Sunday at Noon (Central).
