Soldier Remembered in Grand Island

Family and friends of Army 1st Lt. Mark Noziska will pay their respects to the soldier from Nebraska on Friday.

The funeral for the 24-year-old will be held Friday morning at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Noziska grew up in Grand Island before moving to the Omaha area. He graduated from Papillion-La Vista High School in 2004 and the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2008.

Noziska's parents and brother live in Grand Island. The Grand Island Independent reports Noziska was named Nebraska Soldier of the Year in 2005 while serving in the Army National Guard. He transferred to active duty in 2008. He was killed by an explosion in Afghanistan on Aug. 30.
