After serving in Afghanistan for the past year, the first group of Nebraska Army National Guard members are now home.

Hundreds of anxious families packed Lincoln East high school to welcome back their loved ones.

While overseas, the mission was to provide training and mentoring to the Afghan National Army and Police Force.

Following the reunion, everyone went inside for a welcome back ceremony. Those who had been away say it's the end of a long journey.  Staff Sergeant Corey Hackbart says, “it's just…a part that was missing is now whole again. So it's good to be back.”

Three other welcome home ceremonies are planned for other returning Army National Guard members. The first is scheduled for tomorrow morning in Fremont.
