Southeast Community College Student Found Dead
Gage County Attorney Richard Smith says the body of 18-year-old Southeast Community College student Kendra Benham was found Thursday night, around 11:30pm. She apparently died as the result of an accident which probably occurred around midnight last Friday night, shortly after she was last seen.
The accident scene was discovered by a Beatrice rural firefighter. Smith says the teenager's pickup left the road, then fell into a creek-bed ravine. Smith says firefighters had to use ropes to lower themselves down another 20 to 25 feet into the ravine to get to the truck. He says it could not be seen from the road. Smith says snow on Sunday made it more difficult to find the teen.
The search did not begin until Monday. More snow fell on Tuesday. Smith says melting the last few days helped in location of the accident.
