LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska’s JD Spielman was named to the Paul Hornung award watch list on Thursday. The award is given to the most versatile player in the country.

The sophmore wideout, already named to the Biletnikoff award watch list this preseason, hauled in 55 passes for 830 yards last season. He set school freshman records in receptions, receiving yards, 100-yard receiving games and all-purpose yards.

He also shined in the kick return game as well, averaging 157.8 all-purpose yards a game in the Big Ten, tying for second with Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor for second most all time by a freshman.

Spielman will look to be NU’s first-ever Hornung Award winner, as Ameer Abdullah was a finalist for the award in 2014.
