Lincoln, Neb. – The Lincoln Stars signed coach Chris Hartsburg to a two-year contract extension with a team option for the 2018-2019 season, the team announced on Tuesday.

Hartsburg has gone 51-61-8 through two seasons with the Stars, turning a last-place finish in the 2014-2015 season into a playoff berth in the 2016 Clark Cup Playoffs.

“We’re excited with the progress Chris has made during his time in Lincoln,” Stars GM Jon Hull said. “The team has shown steady improvement and we feel going forward we’re comfortable with him as our coach.”

The Stars improvement from an 18-37-5 record in 2015 to a 33-24-3 record in 2016 was the largest among any USHL team since the Indiana Ice (2014).

During his two-year tenure, Hartsburg has sent 26 players to play NCAA Division I hockey. He is coaching 17 college commits on the Stars 2016-2017 roster.

“If you look at our timeline in Lincoln, there’s no mistake that the development of players is starting the spike,” Stars GM Jon Hull said. “We’re sending more players to elite college programs and had two players selected in the 2016 NHL Draft.”

Hartsburg joined the Stars after one season as an assistant with the Erie Otters (OHL) and two seasons as an assistant with the Everett Silvertips (WHL).

The Stars will host a preseason game against the Omaha Lancers on Friday, Sept. 16. Full season ticket holders will receive complimentary tickets to the exhibition.

The Stars regular season home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 23 against the Tri-City Storm. Individual tickets will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 10 a.m.
