State epidemiologist says no flu right now

Flu season is over, and a state expert says there is no evidence that H1N1 flu or any sort of influenza is making Nebraskans sick right now.

Dr. Tom Safranek is the state epidemiologist. He says state health officials are remaining in contact with the medical community to guard against a recurrence or reintroduction of H1N1 flu or any other type.

In its last report to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Nebraska reported no flu activity. Safranek says there hasn't been any for several weeks. Nebraska's death toll from the H1N1 virus, was 15 since the first occurred on July 15 last year. The last Nebraska H1N1 flu death was reported Jan. 26.
