State Fair Prize Money Cut From Budget

A proposed budget plan advanced through the first of three rounds of debate Thursday. But not before legislators cut out money for the State Fair.

The Legislature voted 27 -2 to remove funding for prize money that would go to event winners. Three hundred and six thousand dollars would have been spent on premiums for 4-H, F.F.A. and Open Class entrants at the fair. Some senators say there are more important things to be spending State money on right now. Senator Roger Wehrbein says he'll try to have the money restored to the budget, but 4-H members say it doesn't look too hopeful. The funding was also cut from last year's budget.
