State offers up fans for low-income dealing with heat

Fans are available to low-income, aged or disabled people and families in many communities in Nebraska. 

The fans were purchased with funds from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program which is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services.  DHHS has partnered with local organizations to help get the fans to the people who need them. Positive feedback is being received on the value of the program.

In addition to the fan distribution program, there is help for low-income individuals and families through the cooling program.  To be eligible for the cooling program, a member in the household must be 70 or older or have specific medical conditions which make that person susceptible to heat.  Applications can be completed online at http://ACCESSNebraska.ne.gov or requested by calling 1-800-383-4278 or any local DHHS office.

The household (HH) resource limit for the cooling program is $5,000 and annual income limits are:
