State Officials Try to Solve Budget Shortfall
Could gambling help solve the state's 255-million dollar shortfall? State lawmakers heard arguments from both sides Monday. The proposal would legalize casinos on land owned by Indian tribes and build casinos on a two-mile wide strip around the Nebraska border as long as the neighboring state has gambling. Those who support it say it would bring much needed money into the state. Those against it say it would cause more problems for the state. Senators who support the initiative are hoping to put it on the Governor race ballot next November.
