The Nebraska State Patrol says a chase Monday night ended when the driver jumped out of his pick up.

The State Patrol identified the driver as 19-year-old Justin Kanniard, of Pawnee City and Steinauer.

The State Patrol says the pursuit occurred at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday.  It began near Pawnee City.  The patrol says speeds reached 85mph before ending approximately ½ mile north of Highway 4 on 646 Avenue near Humboldt, in Richardson County, Nebraska. Members of the Nebraska State Patrol, Pawnee County Sheriff's Office, and Richardson County Sheriff's Office were involved in the pursuit.

The State Patrol says stop sticks were used by officers to flatten the tires of the vehicle being pursued, a blue Dodge Dually pickup.  The patrol says the pickup left the road and went into a soybean field.  They say the driver had a rope around his neck which was attached to the pickup, and apparently jumped out of the vehicle while it was in motion.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. An autopsy has been scheduled. No additional information is available at the present time due to the continuing nature of the investigation.
